In 2017, SID banka and the European Investment Fund (EIF) launched the Slovene Equity Growth Investment Programme (SEGIP) for equity and quasi-equity financing of Slovenian SMEs and growth-stage mid-cap companies in the amount of EUR 100 million (SID banka and EIF both EUR 50 million). SEGIP addresses the market gap in equity financing in Slovenia, develops the equity financing environment and helps to attract private investors to provide equity financing to growth-stage Slovenian companies.
Out of the EUR 100 million SEGIP funding, EUR 50 million was earmarked for private equity funds with Slovenian managers, selected by the EIF following a public call for proposals. ALFI PE SIS was thus established with a EUR 25 million contribution from the SEGIP, and it also received additional private investor funding of 1.8 times the SEGIP contribution.
SEGIP aims to support Slovenian small, medium and mid-cap companies, attract international private equity investment to Slovenia and build financial and institutional capacity in Slovenia by supporting private equity fund managers who channel a significant part of their investments into Slovenian companies.
SEGIP is one of the first financial programmes launched by the EIF under the EIF-NPI Equity Platform and the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) in cooperation with national catalyst institutions at EU level. SID Bank joined as a founding member in September 2016.

ALFI PE III Fund is a private equity fund established with the purpose of financing the growth and development of small and medium-sized enterprises, primarily in Slovenia and Croatia, as well as in the broader region of Central and Southeastern Europe. The fund builds upon the successful track record of previous private equity funds ALFI PE and ALFI PE Growth, continuing their investment strategy focused on companies with strong growth potential and the creation of long-term value.
Investments are primarily targeted at sectors with development potential, such as healthcare, information and communication technology (ICT), niche manufacturing, business services, education, and food production. Their growth in the region is supported by favorable demographic trends, rapid digitalization, rising global demand, and the need for greater efficiency and professional business management.
The fund invests in stable and profitable companies that are seeking a strategic partner to achieve their growth ambitions. The management team is involved in all stages of the investment process, from initial analysis and transaction execution to active development support and successful exit realization.
The majority of the fund’s capital will be directed towards companies based in Slovenia and Croatia, where ALFI PE has extensive experience, in-depth market understanding, and a strong network of local partners. This access enables early identification of high-quality investment opportunities and consistent implementation of the fund’s strategy.
The foundation of the fund's strategy is a long-term partnership with management teams and commitment to ESG principles. ALFI PE III aims to help companies grow and develop sustainably, in a way that benefits not only investors but also employees, the local environment, and broader society.
